Drying Done Right — The 10–14 Day Myth
Drying Done Right — The 10–14 Day Myth
Everyone’s heard it:
“Dry it for 10–14 days.”
Sounds simple. Sounds repeatable.
But the truth is—time isn’t the control.
Environment is.
Where the Myth Comes From
That 10–14 day window didn’t come out of nowhere.
It’s just what tends to happen when your environment is somewhere in the right range.
But people took that outcome…
…and turned it into a rule.
So now growers chase the clock instead of paying attention to what actually matters.
Drying Isn’t About Time
Drying is about controlling the rate of moisture loss.
Too fast—and you lock in chlorophyll, harshness, and lose volatile compounds.
Too slow (without proper control)—and you risk degradation, mold, or flat expression.
The plant doesn’t care what day you’re on.
It responds to conditions.
What Actually Matters
You’re managing a system:
- Temperature
- Humidity
- Air movement
- Room density
- Plant size and structure
All of these affect how moisture moves out of the plant.
If those variables aren’t controlled, your dry won’t be consistent—no matter how many days you aim for.
The Goal
You’re trying to slow the plant down… without letting it stall.
A proper dry:
- Preserves terpenes
- Allows internal moisture to equalize
- Prevents harsh breakdown
- Sets up a proper cure
Rush it—and you’ll feel it in the smoke.
What Most People Miss
The outside of the bud drying ≠ the inside being ready.
You can have a stem snap and still have excess internal moisture.
That’s where a lot of mistakes happen:
- Bagged too early
- Sealed too soon
- Moisture redistributes → quality drops
This is where real control starts to matter.
Consistency Comes From Control
If your drying conditions are stable, your results become predictable.
If they’re not—you’re just hoping it turns out.
And hope isn’t a strategy.
Go Deeper
Drying is one of the most overlooked parts of the entire process—and one of the most important.
Inside the community, we’re breaking down:
- Target environmental ranges
- How to read your dry in real time
- How to avoid common post-harvest losses
- How to transition properly into cure

Together We Grow
You don’t dry for 10–14 days.
You dry until the plant is ready.
